I recently bought the newest formulation in the silver striped packaging with silver Kouros logo. I also bought an earlier packaging, (single white stripe with silver edge). A Z: Kouros circa 2010 version vs current reformulation. A brief overview of this legendary fragrance from Yves Saint Laurent. This video will compare today's version with a 2010 "Silver . So far, it seems like if it was reformulated, YSL did one of the better jobs. Again, this is only after the first wearing and things may change after a couple more times. I'm going to try DustB's "t-shirt test" and see if I can tell which is which and what the differences are.
They had to remove oakmoss and civet due to IFRA regulations etc., and it probably got reformulated after the L'Oréal acquisition It is a scent with 40 years worth of social and chemical changes - so it has certainly been reformulated a few times. You won't know until you test it on your skin. I own full bottles of both - I don't think they smell similar.
Numerous reasons are involved, and this is not a history book, so in short, dozens of perfumes were reformulated to remove these prohibited ingredients and replace them with synthetic versions. What was the outcome of this experiment? I talked with my local perfume shop owner, and he's saving bottles of Kouros because he's convinced it's going to be discontinued eventually.
